Review H&Y EVO series Protection filter by ambassador Maarten van der Voorde

As ambassador of the filter brand H&Y, Maarten van der Voorde got the chance to test the H&Y EVO series. Read his findings below.

H&Y EVO series Protection filter…. Am I sold?

As a professional reportage and documentary photographer, I regularly find myself in situations during my photo work where my equipment has to endure a lot. Dust and dirt are no exception, but I also sometimes have to photograph in small or limited spaces. Good cleaning is therefore always a must!

I usually work with two camera bodies (FujiFilm XPro3) and fast prime lenses. These are certainly well protected and resistant to these influences, but for my front lens I prefer not to have any 'restrictions'. After all, it is really insanely beautiful glass. That is also the reason why I do not screw a UV filter on it for protection. I even replaced the supplied lens hoods with minimalist ones so that my set is more compact and I can capture all the light.

During one of my photo projects, where the locations were quite dusty and risky for damage to my equipment, I came into contact with the protective filters of H&Y.

But why a protection filter and not a simple UV filter? They are available everywhere and cheap. I understand that the current digital camera is equipped with software that removes UV radiation. In addition, the current lenses are equipped with a coating that prevents the "blue haze" and excessive exposure of UV rays.
An additional big advantage between a UV filter and the H&Y protection filter is that the latter only gives 0.2% light restriction. Compared to a UV filter, this restriction can be up to 1.5 stops!

I carry my two cameras with lenses on a double strap close to me. If I need more lenses for an assignment and therefore have to change sometimes, I carry the lenses in protected bags with me.
But while taking pictures an accident can happen in a small corner and then a good protective filter is a smart choice. I found it at H&Y and all my lenses are now equipped with this strong front glass. That gives a certain peace and a bit more 'freedom of movement' while making my reports.

So ……. Yes! I am sold! So friends, my advice is to choose a H&Y protection filter.
